



CartRewards (2017) is a Shopify app that provides additional functionality to online stores that use the Shopify platform. CartRewards is designed to boost sales by increasing the store's conversion rate as well as its average order value and customer lifetime values.
The Problem
Current timer-based discount apps rush customers to check out quickly in order to take advantage of their discount. Consequently, customers don't spend as much time browsing through other products or site content and the site's Average Order Value (AOV) metric suffers. With CartRewards, we utilize scarcity and urgency to boost conversions while also incentivizing larger order purchases.
Once a customer adds an item to their cart, they are taken to the cart page where they can see their current discount reward level. By adding more items to their cart, the discount increases! For example, 1 item unlocks 10% off, 3 items raises it to 20%, 5 items Raises it to 30% and free shipping! (customizable by merchant). CartRewards boosts conversions without sacrificing AOV.
Feature Set Breakdown

Dropdown Banner
Problem: Merchants need to inform customers of ongoing promotions while causing the least amount of friction as possible.
Solution: The drop-down banner method of housing current promotional material is a tried and true e-commerce solution. It allows for quick and easily digestible announcements that do not interrupt a visitor's user experience unlike traditional pop-ups.
CTA Button & Default Descriptions
Problem: Campaigns need to inform and funnel traffic towards conversion destinations.
Solution: With any campaign, merchants must be able to inform website visitors of their offers. This short default description offers a guideline for merchants to write small, but effective instructional copy. An optional call to action button is offered as well to allow merchants the ability to guide traffic to promotion-specific URLs.
Time-sensitive Discount Offers
Problem: Merchants pay a lot of money for high quality traffic. However, many visitors still on the brink of converting often need a little push.
Solution: CartRewards offers a discounted price to visitors who purchase within the allotted time frame. This type of discount strategy has been known to increase sales by 35% and is a heavily validated e-commerce principle. However, CartRewards takes this concept a step further in the problem below.
Add-to-Cart Rewards
Problem: Savvy merchants understand that in order to get the most out of your traffic, upsells are critical. Traditional count-down campaigns rush visitors to checkout and inadvertently incentivize customers to avoid browsing additional items or content. This leads to an overall lower average order value (AOV) and lifetime value (LTV) of customers.
Solution: By offering extra time via adding items to cart, we minimize the feeling of being too rushed while incentivizing additional purchases and maintaining the integrity of the promotion's scarcity and urgency.
By incentivizing website visitors to add more to cart to earn bigger discount bonuses, we have flipped the script from increasing conversion rates at the sacrifice of AOV and LTV to boosting all three.
Reminder Widget

Problem: A forgotten campaign is a non-existent campaign. It is necessary to keep site visitors informed on what is being offered, how much time they have, what rewards they've unlocked and where to find important URLs.
Solution: We have added a sticky widget that offers a quick view of the offer being promoted, how much time is left, which bonuses are redeemable and the CTA button if available. Screen real estate is becoming very valuable. In it's original state, the widget only shows the amount of time left to convert. When tapped, the widget pulls out to give more information or minimizes to reduce the amount of space taken up.
Admin Dashboard

Problem: Merchants need a place to create and edit promotions, view performance metrics and optimize their campaigns.
Solution: The Admin Dashboard encompasses the tools needed to effectively manage each aspect of your CartRewards campaigns from the header, timer & reminder widget, discount offers and color scheme. Each section is intuitively designed, labeled and explained to require minimal time spent learning how to use the software.
